Black In Canada 2025
Artists in Motion / Ty the Poetess / Orillia and Area Black Community Association / Diverse Voices Unite
Black in Canada Dance Theatre Production is an episodic performance that uses dance, spoken word, and recorded archives to reinforce the powerful impact that Black people have had on the social and cultural fabric of our land. The show celebrates the strength of the Black community, and how through all adversities, we still create art and culture that influences Canadian society. The work interprets the hurtful consequences of systemic racism and aims to educate the audience about the true histories and contemporary climate of hate speech and racial oppression within Canada.
Thank you Artists in Motion, Shameka Blake, Ty the Poetess, Roxann Whittingham, and Diverse Voices Unite for your powerful performances! Arts Orillia is grateful to Alasoba Kelsey Braide for our new partnership with Orillia & Area Black Community Association. We are also thankful to the City of Orillia for your support during this year’s Black History Month celebration.
