Dance & Design supports the design development of four dance performance projects each year in Orillia, Ontario. Movement artists and collectives are offered resources to deeply investigate their creative process with specific focus on sound, costume, lighting, projection, and/or set design. Applicants are invited to propose one project in collaboration with a designer of their choice. Lead artists must be Ontario based.

The residency supports:

1. Five days of rehearsal time at the Orillia Opera House studio theatre

2. Five days of technical development time in the studio theatre with one technician

3. Accommodation for 10 days in Orillia, ON for up to 7 artists

4. Choreographers’ fee

5. Designers’ fee

6. CADA weekly rate for up to four performing/collaborating artists

7. Established artists are invited to visit the community of Orillia for an additional week of solo writing research that supports a biographical or archival project related to the artist's career.

 

All successful applicants must agree to participate in one community engagement while in Orillia. This can take the form of a workshop, artists’ talk, lecture, or performance demonstration. Residencies are offered to artists in four separate categories of professional development. All applications will be juried by a peer assessment committee.
